My father's side isn't religious as no conflicts arise and on the mother's side, the Buddhism strain is a bit stronger. Overall my family is very neutral about religion but I believe that religion is very controversial. This belief comes from the fact that all my life I have been surrounded by different cultures and essentially different beliefs or religions.
When I was young, I was surrounded by a mostly Christian society and when 9/11 occurred I had just arrived to California. There was a religious system that came together and took to the belief of Christianity. There was a moral code to treat foreigners fairly but after the terrorist attack, the attitude was more cold and uncaring yet unwatchful. It did seem that although some of the other residents went to church but weren't really into it, they all were always connected by a common bond. This revelation really made me wonder whether it was the religion or the Chinese culture that tied these people together and excluded my family for some time.
